Make your plans....

This is a great place to make plans if you want to get together after the official Reunion for drinks somewhere. The Reunion committee is following the wishes of our classmates by keeping the cost per person under $50.00 which makes it very difficult to have an evening event with alcohol. I know quite a few of you have emailed me asking if there was something planned for Saturday night. I have been away from the Bay Area too long to recommend any good places....does anyone know of a good spot?

RE: What is your biggest Carlmont regret?

I wish I had convinced my parents to give me tennis lessons or allowed me to join a tennis club before I had tried out for the tennis team. And, after I was cut, I wish I had realized that I needed more than one session of group lessons over the summer. Now, in my forties, I am a tennis fiend. I play league tennis and love it. But, I also have learned that practicing, along with lessons, improves your game a lot. I think during one of the tryouts I had played against an athletic girl named Kim. She was a talented tennis player and it showed. My parents were unaware that I tried out, that I liked tennis, or, that I needed lessons. LOL! In those days, wishful thinking seemed to make sense. Ha! Ha!

What is your biggest Carlmont regret?

I have to be honest. Sometimes I regret not taking Roberta Wallace's urging to stay my Senior Year and run for 77/78 School Mascot. I think it would have been fun and now, in hindsight, I kinda wish I had the opportunity to wear that UGLY head! *laughing*

So, what other regrets are lurking out there???

Oh my goodness Janet, I was in the same boat, there were a few of us that always cut Mr. Browns class and he said he didn't care, then weeks before graduation he changed his mind and made us to every lap, I never ran so much, Steve, Mike and I were out there every day too, at least 3 times a day. I even ran out of time, and was not going to make it, but thank goodness for Mr. Sweet to save the day!!

RE: What is your favorite memory from High School?

One of my many favourite memories is the "Toga" party at someone's home up in Hallmark in November (I think) of our senior year. The movie "Animal House" was in the theatres earlier that summer, and this inspiration for the party could not be passed up...

My second car was a little forest green 1967 Austin Healy Sprite convertible. It was a bitterly cold night, and myself and a buddy (I forget who) and three girls (I forget who they were, too!) drove up to that party, all five of us in that little two-seater. The roof was down, and I can vividly remember racing past Carlmont Shopping Centre and a Belmont Police car parked in the gas station on the corner, the chilly November wind blowing our flowing togas like wings of angels. I can still see the incredulous look on the police officers' face! Why he didn't chase after us is a question that I still ponder to this day...

The party details have been blurred by memory (and I'm sure by a few intoxicants consumed that night!), but that memory of care-free youth, wanton abandon, and foolish safety risks will stay etched forever in my "Happy Place"!

What is your favorite memory from High School?

I'm not sure this is my favorite memory, but it's the one that pops up first in my head....I had to run a mile for every class that I cut in my Senior year or no diploma. We were just weeks away from graduation and my total miles that I "owed" came to 62! I ran before school, at lunch & after school to reach this goal. Needless to say, I was not very happy! After a week or two of this routine, something clicked and I could have run for ever. I kind of liked it! Running gave me lots of time to reflect. It's one of the few lessons that stuck, teaching me to be responsible for my decisions or accept the consequences.
